Movie review: THE CONTRACT (2013) AN YVONNE OKORO FILM

A very successful young business man Mr. Pupolampo (Hlmola Dandala) decided not to have a baby the normal way.

He sets out to find a lady who would become pregnant for him through artificial insemination.

Abena Boateng (Yvonne Okoro) who has been out on  job hunting but with little success and additionally burden by the

spiraling medical bills of her only sister decided to accept the offer of carrying that baby,

an offer she initially turn down.

The whole process was completed and all contract documents were signed. She became pregnant.

The pregnancy opened a can of worms that infested the film right from the beginning

down to the end giving the film taste and flavour.

You are likely to walk away from the movie with some of these impressions. The sound from the film was very good but for the picture quality they could have done better.

On Abena’s sick sister suffering from cancer, the movie did not tell us her final faith; the spectator is left to draw his own conclusion.

The sex scene in the movie could have been avoid or made mild. Without them the movie would have made perfect sense.

Sometimes we have to honour our cultural etiquette in our movies.

The soundtrack to the movie was superb; it should have been used more for the promotion of the movie.

Only those who had the chance to see the movie to the end would appreciate the soundtrack. Probably the soundtrack would have done the same trick Azonto ghost (2012) did for Bisa K’dei and Becca’s  Daa ke Daa  for Scorned (2008).

Since the film making is a collaborative effort, the domination of Shirley Frimpong-Manso style of work could be felt throughout the whole film.

The plot thickened and there is always a twist just when you thought the movie is about to end.  However, the tension wasn’t tense enough to keep you at the edge of your seat.

For Yvonne Okoro as an accomplished actress and an up and coming film maker,

she has to distinct herself and come up with a style of her own to earn her ranks among the auteur.
