Kyeiwaa’s Abortive Marriage and the Issue of Polygamy

There was so much excitement in the air as the news of marriage of Rose Mensah/Kyeiwaa made waves on varies airwaves and network.  The excitement came to an abrupt end when news emerged that the man was already married.

This sparked a comment from Kyeiwaa to the effect that she preferred to get married to a cripple than a married man.  Many Ghanaians as the situation demands joined in showering various comments, Kyeiwaa then further proceed and thanked her fans for the support and concern shown.

The man lied hence had no credibility and can’t be trusted. Nullifying the marriage was a step in the right direction. Had the man been honest on being married at the onset and Kyeiwaa had agreed to the marriage, what would have been the response of many among us?

I guess it would have been vile and bitter and it would have been a clear case of polygamy. Many people detest polygamy more especially females. This loathe of polygamy might have partly contributed to Kyeiwaa’s cripple man marriage comment.

Ghana religiously is blessed. Aside the option of practicing a faith of your choice, the nation has three main religions, traditional religion, Christianity and Islam. Traditional religion and Islam accept polygamy.

We have in our midst some of our traditional elders and chiefs having multiple wives and the Muslim community isn’t an exception. And do so with alacrity justifying that stand with Quran verse 3 of chapter 4.  A verse so easy to misquote for mockery purposes by cynics by ignoring the conditions attached.
The situation of polygamy is quite the opposite with Christianity; one man one machete is the belief. As to if there is a single clear, explicit, unambiguous verse in it religious book of authority that states boldly marry one, am yet to be educated on that.

Conversely, it divine men of authority – Abraham, David, Solomon, Moses – had more than one. The master teacher himself Jesus left this world a young man, age 33 and can’t be used for nuptial illustration, however in his teachings did he condemn polygamy?

Empathizing with women folk it is understandable to be shattered at another woman getting married to your man.  But there is a dilemma which many either consciously or unconsciously are failing to acknowledge. Girls population in Ghana and globally is far more than boys.
Using the current Ghana statistics, although not possible, if every man and every woman in Ghana is to be married, minimum, it would be one man marrying four women.

The situation is compounded when prison daily is being filled with men. More men are dying from war and other hazardous undertakings. The recent rise in population of our over-civilized brethren the gay community leaves less men in the society for women to grab.

The bottom line is more and more women are left out of the marriage equation. That is the truth of the reality, you either face it or burry thy head in the sand as the proverbial ostrich.

Men by nature are polygamous and every woman in a relationship either knows or feels the polygamous instinct of men, hence they guard their men jealously from other predators.

To close this piece the only one question bothering my mind is how can we resolve the problem of surplus women? I propose polygamy, with this our sisters, aunties, cousins; nieces are secured in the safety net of marriage.
The opposite monogamy leaves us with more single mothers, more married men going behind their wives, and variety of bastards on our street. Or propose to me a better idea that solves the problem of surplus women.

On a polygamous note am parking my fan fair and scampering out of here before the women go wild and chase me with a stick.
