RAHIM BANDA

The acting branch of the Academy list includes Rahim Banda. This kid can’t vote in an election, sign his name, what criteria was used in including him to vote at the highest level before the general public makes an input? As to if the kid understands the interpretation of the special rules for acting awards remains a wonder.  Yet to be verified is if all the 18 members of the acting branch of the academy are dues paying members of Ghana Actors Guild.

 KIMBERLY ELISE

The only time I heard of Kimberly Elise in a Ghanaian movie was in Ties that Bind (2012).  Am not against her inclusion but what criteria were used? And did she watch all the nominated films and voted? Kimberly as far as US is on the Academy, why isn’t our next door neighbour Nigeria having a candidate?

RULES MIX-UP

Visit the Ghana movie awards website under its Rules and Eligibility (Nomination Special Rule) you will find Rules for Costume Design under Acting Awards; Rules for Visual Effect Awards under Best Picture; repetition of Rules like Best Picture. Sound incredible, isn’t it? Maybe you can put your hands together for the organizers.

 

MAMBO JAMBO

The Ghana Movie Award had Special Rules for Best Visual Effect, Best TV series, Best TV series actor and actress. Yet none of the category was honoured that night. Others with no Special Rules were honoured, including; Short Movie, Best Africa Collaboration. Give them another hand of applauses.

PATIENCE OZORKOR

Four times running she has been nominated in the African Collaboration category. I do not doubt her credibility but it makes me wonder.

JUST ONE MEMEBER

The Cinematography Academy and Make-up and Hair Stylist Academy Branch of the Ghana Movie Award is made up of 1 member each. Academy branch voting is done secretly in a group. My layman understanding is that one person can’t make a group. Additionally, Cinematography Award was not in 2013 nominations.

DISCOVERY OF THE YEAR

A category I will advocate for it inclusion is the Discovery of the Year. It takes a lot of effort and will to get a break in the Ghana film industry. With the well established receiving most of the awards, a little reward for the up and coming will be shot in the arm.

2014 EXPECTATION

Looking forward to Kwaw Ansah, Shirley and Leila collaboration on a movie. Won’t that movie make it to the Oscars? Am yet to see Kwaw Ansah at the Ghana movie awards-like the proverbial John Ford (Best Director of All Time) never attended the Oscars but displayed the awards he won proudly at home.

The aim of the critique papers is not to bring disrepute to the awards or group of persons. The main emphasis is to bring out the devil, fuel him and set him ablaze for best awards next time around. If we are related then we have met through these lines, Adieu.
