AMAA 2014: RADIO REVIEW

On Joy FM’s Saturday afternoon entertainment review program hosted by Ken Addey, saw AMAA put under the spotlight, with Judith Ghana’s representative of AMAA in the defense dock.

She appears unsure of herself, but believed me; under her sleeves are the answers to the begging questions of Ken, co-hosts and the callers. AMAA it was disclosed has now chop 10 years.

Heavily mourned on the program was the absent of Kumawood film in all the categories, although as confirmed by Judith and Francis of Ghone news, of at least submission of 3 Kumawood films, but the films failed  in meeting the set criteria.

The controlling interest of sponsors was not left out, how sponsors make it a condition for the awards to be hosted in countries were more than enough of their clientele are based, so it shouldn’t be a surprise if Ghana has failed to have it hosted on it soil.

An area that brought laughter was the category for Animation, as to why Ghana has no nomination. The studio audience couldn’t hold their laughter back; the answer was obvious; Ghana film industry doesn’t have an animation industry.

The studio panel tagged Judith on the role of Majid, a Ghanaian in a Nigerian movie “Brothers’ Keeper” for the Best Actor in Leading Role. Judith insisted, Majid must be seen as an African, in an African film and not from Ghana or Nigerian perspective.

The shareholding base of AMAA was also invaded, questioning why it has been Nigeria centralized after 10 years. Judith fought back, pressing that programs are being implemented on decentralizing AMAA; the slump in the implementation has to do with logistics and the sheer size of AMAA but hopefully they will get there.

Another trap of web was set for Judith to catch her  on the year for the awards and movies that qualified for nomination, 2013 or 2014, direct emphasis was made on inclusion of Kwaw Ansah’s film “Good Old Days; the love of AA”. Clearly it was explain the awards being held in 2014 is to award and honour 2013 line of films.

Judith at the end of the program did made a kind hearted appeal, calling for government support and backup, because AMAA seeks to promote African, culture, values, heritage and arts to the outside Africa world.

AMAA is slated to take place 26th April, 2014, if you are keen film follower that can be earmarked on your calendar. Until then, keeping my fingers crossed, taking off my critical lenses, lose my sleeves and patiently wait, tapping my foot for the aftermath analysis- Sharparrows signing out.
