Do you know how many
movies are released each week in Ghana? ; On the minimum, four movies each
week. There are more film production
houses than you can afford to count. New production houses show up consistently
whiles others fade away slowly.
Ghana had some pioneer
film production houses whose movies still resonates with many Ghanaian. GFI
decided to do a background check.
MIRACLE FILMS
You don’t need to be old
enough to know of miracle films. When it comes to glamour films, any film
reviewer will give Miracle Films two thumbs up. They were among the finest in
film making. But now so little is heard
of them. It appears they have relocated to Kumasi. Currently they do more
Kumawood films –Evangelist Lil Wyne, typical example of their film.
GAMA FILMS
This is the king of pioneer
film production houses in Ghana. Most of the all time best Ghanaian film you’ve
ever watch was made by Gama Films. Kwame
Nkrumah was it brain child. Our checks reveal that it has sunk to the bottom of
the ocean like the Titanic. It was part of TV3 even when the Malaysians left,
until recently when GAMA Films disappeared from the sea surface down to the
depths.
HACKY FILMS
Hacky films from all
indication is on long sabbatical break from feature films. When GFI caught up
with it founder Mr Asare Hackman, some time back, it was revealed that it focus
is now into content management. But who knows, don’t be surprise if Hacky Films
pulls a rabbit out of a hat to startle audience with it good old days films.
SILVER LINE PRODUCTION
When it comes to
showmanship in costume and set designing, Silver Line Production seems
unmatched. Silver line made some of the finest films in Ghana and pay
particular attention to cultural settings. It office was at Opera square but
moved out a few years back to a new location around Korle bu as we were told.
On the Ghanaian film scene currently, Silver Line is in hibernation.
H. M FILMS
The initials stands for
Hammond Mensah it founder. H.M films among the pioneer film production houses
in Ghana and has distinguish itself on the Ghanaian film scene by it action
films. H. M films is still alive and actively doing film business. It currently
putting up a new structure opposite TV3, sharing the same compound with Smartty
Production.
VENUS FILMS
Venus Films,
you need not say much; so vibrant so active. And just last month it premiered
one of it movie. So far this year from Venus films, we’ve seen Cheaters and
Bachelors. If you are to trace the root of Venus films, you will find it going
way back among the pioneer film production houses in Ghana.
